My name is Emily Suffling and I currently work at the Howard Clinic and the Royal Berkshire Hospital. At the Howard Clinic I do domiciliary visits with clients that have suffered from neurological conditions.
I qualified in 1997 with a Bsc Honour degree in physiotherapy. I have worked at the Royal Free Hospital for 2 and a half years specialized in neurology. I have also worked in the National Ears, Nose and Throat Hospital in Kings Cross assessing and treatment clients with vestibular conditions.
My interest and experience is in neurology and I have thoroughly enjoyed assessing and treating clients with any neurological conditions. I have lived and worked abroad. After getting my first 4 years of experience in London a opportunity came up to live in New Zealand. I worked in Auckland City Hospital in the Acute Head Injuries Unit for 2 years and thoroughly enjoyed the life style and work style of New Zealand. We then moved to a more rural part of New Zealand, Wanganui where I worked in a acute stroke Unit.
I stopped work in Wanganui as I was pregnant with my first child. I now have 3 children, 2 at school and my youngest at pre school, allowing me time now to concentrate on my career and getting back to my interest neurology. My treatment approach is very hands on, analyzing movement with function to try and achieve the clients goals. I have done Bobath Courses in normal movement and have also attended courses on splinting, use of the Swiss ball and vestibular treatment techniques. I am continuing reflecting and adapting my treatments for each client for a very personal treatment plan to achieve the goal of the client.
